Composer

Matthew holds a Bachelor of Music and a Graduate Professional Diploma (GPD) in Music Composition from The Hartt School (University of Hartford). A collegial department atmosphere allowed him to study with a variety of faculty and visiting composers including:  Tawnie Olson, Ken Steen, Larry Allen Smith, Robert Carl, Elizabeth Brown, Gilda Lyons, Matt Sargent, and David Macbride. His works have been performed by the Hartt School’s Foot in the Door Ensemble, Hartt Chamber Choir & Camerata, Chorus Angelicus, the Connecticut Children’s Chorus, Greater New Haven Community Chorus, Concentus, the Cathedral of St. Joseph Schola Cantorum, and Khorikos. A highlight of his time at Hartt was a collaboration with the Theater Division on their production of TOP GIRLS, directed by Nora Chester. His GPD work focused on the composition of both large works, as well as electronic and electroacoustic music. The latter resulted in a joint multimedia recital with composer-artist Adam Lenz.

Besides commission work, Matthew offers a variety of more practical services, including arranging, engraving, transposition, and orchestration.
